About two months ago I had a dream and in this dream a man with a long white beard and the most piercing eyes stood staring at me on a road. I felt an overwhelming sense of peace and goodwill but , he said nothing just seemed to be looking deep into my soul... And , then i awoke and was a bit dazed. As the day went on I felt a compulsion to know who this master was but, how???
That evening i was on line and was searching guru I thought maybe he was some eastern mystic or teacher. And as if the universe had heard my cry there was a picture of the man from my dreams. It said his name was Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Further reading and I found out he was the founder of the Sikh faith.
At first I thought Sikhism is a closed off faith. I mean you never heard of a Sikh missionary and it was a cultural thing right..?...??? WRONG I have found the Sikh faith to be everything I have ever dreamed of its a faith of love and unity. It is for all peoples black , white, brown , yellow and everything else under the rainbow.... I have found some of the most kind people who have bent over backwards to send me books and guide me step by step. And, never once have I felt like I was a foreigner rather i have been treated like family!
I think we in the west have had a wrong notion of sikhism and i hope I can share as I continue on my journey and perhaps help someone else.... Though i have not yet been through the amrit ceremony. I can still say with an honest heart I am a Sikh for I have faith in the Gurus from Sri Nanank Dev Ji to Sri Guru Granth Sahib. And I am so thankful for this knowledge...
